Dr. Dan Totan: Studio Policies
Dear Parent and Student, thank you for choosing private cello lessons. Music lessons are known to improve self-discipline, comprehension and solving complex problems, memory and brain function, focus, coordination, social skills, computational skills, and more.
Through this agreement, I promise to be a serious and devoted teacher to your child. I am an experienced and dedicated educator who is ready to help your child develop as far as they are capable and willing to with their cello studies.
The following policies govern my interactions with my students and their parents: payment, attendance, scheduling, class preparation, and punctuality. Please ask your child to read this agreement and acknowledge what is required and expected of them.
Cost and Payment Schedule
Current lesson fees: $50 for 30 minutes, $75 for 45 minutes $100 for 60 minutes.
Payment is made monthly at the first lesson of each month. It is the responsibility of the parent to make payment in either check, cash, or online payments at or before their child’s first scheduled lesson of each month. To calculate the amount due each month, consult a calendar and count vertically the number of recurring lesson days your child will attend that month, then multiply it by the cost of their lesson.
Practice
I ask my students to pledge a minimum of one hour of practice per day or a total of 7 hours per week. Please understand that progress is not possible without constant and regular practice. Playing an instrument requires extremely complex brain-motor functions and feedback-coordination which can only be mastered through constant and thoughtful repetition. The lesson is not reserved for practice but for learning.
Students are expected to come to their lessons prepared and ready to learn. They are also expected to be respectful and cooperative during their lessons. The students need to have their music with them on the day of their lesson. I will supply some of the music we will work on, but I will also ask that the students purchase music that I do not provide.
Punctuality
If you arrive earlier than scheduled, please wait for your lesson time unless you are called in. I have limited time to practice or rest and sometimes every minute counts for my preparation of concerts, recitals, recordings, and other engagements.
If you arrive on time and I am still working with another student, please knock on the door and let me know that it is your time. If I am practicing on my own, please knock on the door at your lesson time, not before.
